CRISIS LINE

In operation since 1971, our 24-hour crisis line (248.456.0909 or 1.800.231.1127) receives 26,000 calls annually. The calls represent a wide variety of crisis situations including suicide, victimization, relationship problems, substance abuse, domestic violence, financial problems and mental illness.

Crisis line volunteers, who must be 18 years or older, counsel callers and provide information and referrals from a database of more than 4,500 sources.

We provide volunteers with more than 60 hours of professional training to prepare them for crisis line calls. The training program, offered three times a year, includes in-depth sessions on domestic violence, sexual assault, mental illness, suicide, substance abuse, codependency and youth issues, as well as communication skills.

Once trained, volunteers are asked to work one weekly four-hour shift. For more information, prospective volunteers should attend a Volunteer Orientation, held the first Wednesday of every month from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. at our administrative office. Or contact Cheryl Ross, Volunteer Coordinator, at 248.456.8137 ext. 175 or cross@commongroundsancutary.org.

TEEN 2 TEEN TALK LINE

Our Teen 2 Teen Talk Line provides an outlet for metro-Detroit teens to talk anonymously and confidentially with a peer about issues they are facing. The line will be available daily from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m..

Volunteers, who must be between the ages of 16 and 24, will counsel callers and provide information and referrals from a database of more than 4,500 sources.
